Quota? How the heck do you calculate it?

Here is an example of how your weekly points are calculated with a player index of 14:

The Course Handicap is being calculated for All 18 holes. This player is on the Blue / White tee, the slope is 127, the course rating is 69.0, and the par is 70.

The initial index is 14.

The Course Handicap is calculated as (index) * (slope) / 113 = 14 * 127 / 113 = 15.735

The CRP (Course Rating Program) adjustment of 69.0 - 70 = -1.0 is applied. The resulting Course Handicap is 14.735.

The handicap adjustment percentage of 90.0% is applied (90% is unique to this league). The Playing Handicap becomes 13.261.

After rounding, the Playing Handicap is 13. The Quota is equal to 13 for 18 holes or 6.5 for 9 holes.

For 18 holes, Quota is calculated by subtracting 36 from your handicap: 36 -13 = 23

For 9 holes, Quota is calculated by subtracting 18 from your handicap / 2: 18 - (13/2) = 11.5. This rounds up to 12.

This player must make 12 points for the 9 hole play.

How do I calculate my points on a hole?

Depending on your score for each hole, you may or may not score quota points for the round.

  • Eagle +8 points

  • Birdie +4 points

  • Par +2 points

  • Bogey +1 point

  • Double Bogey pick up your ball and move on. If you think you would have holed out the next shot you can take the stroke and mark your scorecard. If you think it would take you two additional shots to hole out, mark your card accordingly.

My partner ditched me, what do I do?

Firstly, calm down, you’ll be alright. If your partner does not show up for a round, you must make 25% of their points in addition to your own. Normal rounding rules apply.

I calculated my quota and I only need to make 2 points, why does the card say I need to make 3?

The minimum amount of points a player needs to make each week is 3. This is a league rule and does not apply to additional points you are required to make if your partner is a no-show.

In other words, if you need to make 1.5 points for your missing partner and 3 for yourself, the total amount of points you need for the round is 3 + 2 (rounded from 1.5) = 5.

How do I fill out my score card?

You are responsible for marking your gross score (gross is the actual score you get on a hole, no handicap adjustments) just like any other round of golf. You must enter this score in the GHIN app or online each week so your index is calculated properly.

In the blank row at the bottom of the card, mark the points you scored on each hole, as shown above, so you can determine the total quota points earned during the round. Please do not leave this to the Pro Shop to fill out, they should only be responsible for double checking the points recorded are accurate.
